Its lobed form expands from the centre in great curving arcs of ivory and champagne gold, each lobe filled with its own world of arabesques, palmettes and scrollwork so fine it requires examination at close range to fully comprehend. At the very heart, a blush rose inner medallion burns with quiet intensity — a flame at the centre of everything, the point from which all else radiates outward.
What makes this piece exceptional beyond the medallion itself is what happens in the field around it. The navy ground between the medallion's great lobed arms is not empty — it carries a continuous garden of blush and ivory florals in silk so fine they read almost as embroidery against the dark ground. Most rugs at this scale would leave the field relatively open to let the medallion breathe. The Tabriz Imperial fills every inch. The outer field — the wide ivory border between the navy centre and the edge — reverses the palette entirely. Ivory ground, navy and blush pattern, gold accents. The same vocabulary of florals and arabesques as the centre field but in light rather than dark. The effect is architectural — a formal frame around an extraordinary painting, each element in its correct proportion, the whole composition resolving into something that feels both inevitable and rare.
The border is ivory of the warmest tone — carrying blush cartouches at regular intervals, each one containing its own miniature floral composition, framed by continuous gold scrollwork that moves with the measured rhythm of a classical frieze. A thin navy binding at the outermost edge provides the final architectural note — clean, precise and completely authoritative.
